book ‘Ik voel me verf’

‘Can I make a portrait of you and would you be willing to write a poem about that?’ That is what portrait photographer Joost Bataille asked fifty Dutch and Flemish city poets. The photographs and poems together form the collection Ik voel me verf for which I made the design.

It would prove to be a classic edition, in line with the wish of the photographer. A linen cover, with foil and a dust jacket. And bracts with a pattern of the letter ‘v’ (of the word ‘verf’ (paint) from the title) on a blue background.

I placed the fifty poems in the Collis, an elegant and contemporary serif letter. For the dust cover and the inside, I opted for the paper Arcoprint Milk by Fedrigoni. It is a beautiful type of paper that almost has the surface structure of the linen.

In this video the photographer takes you on a tour through the book.

The book can be ordered from publisher Zuurkoolmetworst (ISBN 978-90-821734-0-6).

‘Leonie’s website always lingered in my mind and she turned out to be exactly the right person to design my photography and poetry book. She could almost read my mind and surprised me with her input. And that’s exactly why you hire a designer: to surprise you with beautiful things that you could never have come up with yourself. Things that also match exactly what you had in mind.’
