Einstein
Since October 2010 I've made graphic designs for different clients by the name of ‘Keper ontwerp’ (Keper design). I had a lot of fun designing logos, identities, books and posters. But over the years I've discovered that what I enjoy doing most is designing books and making illustrations.

If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got. — Einstein

I recently read this line in a blog: ‘If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got’. It is a quote by Einstein. I am not a quote kind of person, but this one touched me. Probably because it describes exactly the change I am going through.

Passion

Since October 2010 I’ve made graphic designs for different clients by the name of  ‘Keper ontwerp’ (Keper design). I had a lot of fun designing logos, identities, books and posters.  But over the years I’ve discovered that what I enjoy doing most is designing books and making illustrations. A good example is the book ‘Kleine Wolk’ (Little Cloud) that was published January 2014. A great children’s book which I designed and illustrated.

It’s become more clear to me that I want to follow my passion in illustrating and book design. And if I keep on doing my work as I did, I will get work as I always got. Do I want to follow my passion? Then something has to change. Now, at this very moment.

Leonie Verbrugge focus and name

New name

The name ‘Keper ontwerp’ fits a graphic enterprise that makes different designs for various clients. It is a name that shows how I have been working; with concentration and eye for detail. (the word ‘keper’ comes from a Dutch saying which means as much as ‘looking at something very closely’).

Illustration is a personal translation of the story that I want to tell

Now that I am going to change my focus, this name doesn’t fit me anymore. Illustration is a more personal translation of the story that I want to tell. Illustrating and book design which I do coming from my heart. This asks for a more personal name. And what name is more personal than my own? That’s why I choose to use Leonie Verbrugge ‘illustrator & book designer’. This name change will take effect on April 1st (and no, it’s not a joke :)).

The English addition ‘illustrator & book designer’ shows my ambition. I hope to work for international clients and opportunities that will cross borders.

What is your passion? And did you choose to follow it? I would like to read about your experiences, so feel free to leave a comment. Thank you!
